Here at Recreate Balance, Michele Hislop, LLC, intends to provide our clients with a safe, secure, and professional experience. The following policies and procedures serve as a guide for our first-time and regular massage and coaching clients.
Respect for client needs/boundaries
The client experience, care, and safety is the top priority. Massage therapists are happy to adjust pressure, musical volume, work longer on an area, or move on if you request it.
The client may choose to leave on as much clothing as needed for comfort, refuse any modality/method suggested, or stop the massage at any time and is free to leave.
The client will always be modestly draped. Only the area being massaged will be undraped, and the client has the choice to avoid any areas if they so choose to.
The client will guide conversation during the session; you may choose to talk or not during your session after the initial intake/check-in before getting on the table. Keep in mind the massage therapist may need to check-in, verify, or receive feedback during the session to support your wellbeing and care.
All client visits, conditions, and conversations are confidential. As such, we will not discuss your visit with anybody outside of staff without your express permission.
The client understands that their personal health information will be collected during the first visit and updated as needed electronically. The information provided is kept confidential unless you have given written consent to share with other care providers involved in your care and treatment or required by law.
Existing and new medical conditions
The client must keep the massage therapist informed of any changes in health conditions. Some kinds of massage may be inappropriate for certain medical conditions, and you should inform the massage therapist of your medical history to the best of your knowledge. If you omit anything that leads to negative results, it is your responsibility and not that of the massage therapist.
It is the client's responsibility to keep the massage therapist informed of any medical treatment currently being taken and provide written permission from the physician, chiropractor, physical therapist, etc., confirming that massage may be continued.
If you have any questions on the above information, please call Recreate Balance at 503-437-9345.
Before each session, the treatment plan will be discussed with you. At your first visit with us, you will receive an electronic copy of the Recreate Balance, Michele Hislop, LLC policies and will be asked to electronically sign the consent stating that you have read the information, understand it, and agree to comply with the policies and procedures. A copy can be printed upon your request.
Scope of Practice
Massage Therapy is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques to the soft tissue of the body (muscles, connective tissues, tendons, and ligaments) along with adjunctive therapies with the intention of positively affecting the health and wellbeing of the client. The massage therapist will only use those techniques within their scope of practice, which they deem appropriate for the client's treatment.
Recreate Balance; Michele Hislop, LLC massage therapists, are Oregon licensed professionals and are held to the highest standards of the American Massage Therapy Association. All continuing education and pieces of training are approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, complying with Oregon State standards.
Licensed Massage Therapists do not diagnose or prescribe for medical conditions. Our services are not intended as an alternative for proper medical attention; please refer to a medical doctor for any specific condition or concerns that require medical treatment. Our massage therapist may refer you to a medical doctor for treatment or diagnosis.
Massage therapy is strictly therapeutic and, therefore, strictly non-sexual. Request for sexual activity will not be tolerated, will be viewed as a solicitation, and reported to the proper authorities. The massage therapist has the right to end the massage; you will be charged the full amount for the appointment, and the client will not be rescheduled if this occurs.
The breast and genital area will not be massaged under any circumstance. A professional distance will be maintained from these areas and will remain draped at all times.
Sexual interaction or discussion of any kind between the client and the massage therapist is never appropriate.
To ensure that you obtain your desired appointments, we recommend you schedule your appointment in advance to ensure availability. The new client is required to pay a $25 deposit via credit card to reserve their first appointment. This fee is applied to the service fee during payment after the session. We hold this information as part of our cancellation/no show policy. If the client misses the appointment, the $25 will be obtained for the missed appointment.
Cancellation / no show policy and fees
We value your business and respectfully ask you to give 24-hour notice of cancellation before your appointment. Please note that when you miss an appointment, the therapist loses your business and the potential of other clients who could have scheduled for the same time slot.
Therapy times are reserved exclusively for you. Cancellation with less than 24-hour notice or missed appointments (no show) is subject to fees as follows: ½ the price of the service price for the first missed session, full price for all other after. Canceling an appointment in less than 24 hours or failure to attend a scheduled appointment with the intent of redeeming a gift certificate will result in forfeiting of that certificate.
We understand that unforeseen events such as car problems, business meetings, illnesses, or inclement weather are just a few reasons why one might consider canceling a massage appointment. However, we ask that you call if you cannot keep your appointment. Clients who miss their appointment without giving any prior notification may be charged, as stated above.
Late arrival policy
All massage sessions have a specific time schedule, if you are not present for your scheduled session during the first 15 minutes (unless having telephoned us you might be late), it will be construed by us that you are a no show and the above cancelation / no show policy fees will apply. If you have called, your therapist will determine if there is enough time to accommodate your full session. Regardless of the length of the treatment actually given, you will be responsible for the “full” session fee.
